"Don't worry, I promise we'll save Mai. She'll be back before you know it."
-- 14xxth Year, Reign of Fire Lord Ozai. 130th day since my journey first began. It is getting close to daybreak, and soon I will set off to confront the bandits that have captured Mai. We have not much to offer in terms of bargaining, but I know we have at least one item that they would exchange for her. Myself. To have the Fire Nation Princess in their possession will be worth far more than what they plan to gain if they were to sell Mai to slave traders. I am no fool. I know that slavery still exists within the Fire Nation, despite the law that outlaws such inhumane conducts. I also know that these bandits most likely will not follow their word; they are swindlers in every which way. As long as I can free Mai, however, I will take the risk. Five Moon cycles have passed since I first left the palace. I am not even halfway through the year, and I already find myself faced with the aspect of death, or even worse, slavery, barreling down at me. A strong leader, however, is someone who lives not only for himself, but for his people as well. Mai is a citizen of the Fire Nation. But more importantly, she is my friend. I am unsure how things will play out but there are no doubts in me that believe that this is not the right thing to do. I will leave soon, before Ty Lee awakens. I will do this task on my own. Hopefully by the time she wakes up Mai will either be free, or both of us will be long gone before the bandits can capture her as well. I have slipped most of the remaining coins into her pack and have written her instructions on what she should do in case we do not return. I pray to Agni that she will grant Ty Lee a safe passage home at least. I do not want to think about leaving her all alone, but it is better to have her free than to have all of us captured. I will leave this journal with her as well. Should everything go smoothly, I will write about this experience for future generations to read. If not, however, then this will be my last entry. Zuko didn't save Katara out of OMG FORBIDDEN LOVE. He explicitly said he didn't want ANYONE ELSE to get hurt. Don't convert simple words into love drama. it's lame.
